If you’ve been struggling to motivate yourself, you are not alone. Being unmotivated to do anything can be tough, you feel like you’re mentally and physically exhausted all the time that you just don’t want to do anything productive. This can also be difficult because not doing anything piles up work thus will lead to stress. Other than that, you can also feel guilty for not achieving anything and sometimes you feel like your worthless.
This is why it is important to realize that you’re not alone in these thoughts and feelings. That to not give up when things are rough, as they’re a lot of people that have developed drive and ambition after years of struggling with no motivation.
1. The People Around You Isn’t Supportive
“Surround yourself with beautiful and positive people, who love you and believe in you.”
– Bryant McGill
Your environment has a huge effect on your life. If you surround yourself with negative people, you will adopt their mindset and will become negative too. This will only make it harder for you to motivate yourself when the people around keep saying that “you can’t do it”.
If you are in this situation, the best possible way is to leave. I know how hard it is and it will take a lot of courage. However, I assure you that if you surround yourself with positive people, who have the best intention in mind and will support you whenever you feel down. You will feel motivated and much happier, as the people around will support and guide you with every choice that you make.
2. You Lack Purpose
“Believe in your heart that you’re meant to live a life full of passion, purpose, magic, and miracles.”
– rey bennet
Most of us have been wondering throughout our life on what is our purpose. We tend to be frustrated when all we want is to feel fulfilled on the road that each of us is heading to. That sometimes we are blinded by the mentality of “instant gratification” which makes us miss being in the present moment and enjoying every moment of the journey.
Even so, there is no such thing as instant gratification, you have to be patient and appreciate every moment of your life. To experience the challenges of life and be able to overcome failures, disappointments, and rejections, that can help you grow as a person.
Once you have experienced the things that you don’t want, you’ll be able to gain clarity from the lessons that you have learned. So, don’t be afraid to explore and live throughout the moment. Take your time, don’t stress, and just keep on moving forward.
3. Your Life Is A Mess
“My life had become a mess, then I realized I could start afresh.”
– i am shu
Your work life is out of control, your family and life love is a mess, and everything just doesn’t go the way you want. You also feel like something important is missing in your life. At this point, it’s hard to know where to start, everything just feels so complicated and hard to overcome.
Even when things seem so impossible, don’t give up and lose hope. Instead, start by de-cluttering your life by avoiding toxic and negative people. By doing so, there’s more room for positive people to come into your life, and you’ll be able to have peace of mind. Most importantly, focus on improving yourself to become a better version of yourself.
4. You’re Ungrateful
“If you aren’t grateful for what you already have, what makes you think you would be happy with more?”
– Roy t. bennet
It is so easy to complain about the little things in life, that most of the time we tend to forget on how to be grateful and appreciate the little things that we always took for granted. We are so damn blessed that we have everything that we need. Food to eat, education, and a house to keep us safe. When a lot of people have been working so hard just to acquire the things that we already have since we are born.
This is why we should practice being grateful. That way you’ll be able to appreciate the things that you have, which can also motivate you to work hard and achieve your goals.
5. You Don’t Love Yourself
“If you don’t love yourself you’ll never feel like anyone else does either.”
– Bridgett devoue
Loving yourself is such a difficult thing to do when from the start you never felt like you belong or you always consider yourself unworthy of something. That it is so easy to focus on your faults and without realizing you are already self-deprecating yourself. However, doing this will cause you to dislike yourself and will affect your self-confidence.
This is why self-love is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It will require time, effort, and commitment but in the end, it will be so worth it. As you will allow yourself to increase your self-confidence, self-worth and it will make you feel more positive.

6. You’re Impatient
“Impatience can cause wise people to do foolish things.”
– janette oke
Impatience decreases productivity and will affect your mental health. This is why it is important to practice patience. It might be a tough skill to master but it is worth it because being impatient will only harm your reputation, increase stress, and damage relationships.
7. Your Goal Is Overwhelming
“Achievable goals are the first step to self-improvement.”
– j.k rowling
Setting a goal for yourself is incredibly important as it will give you a guide on what you want for the future. However, be careful of setting an ambitious goal for yourself that requires you to push hard every day. That in the end, you can’t get yourself to do any task because the goal overwhelms you, which can also be unmotivating.
The best possible way to solve this problem is for you to take things slowly. Don’t pressure yourself and break down a big task into small goals with reasonable deadlines. This way it would be much easier for you to finish each of your tasks without overwhelming yourself.
8. You’re Stuck In a Course Or A Job You Don’t Like
“Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong.”
– mandy hale
A lot of people are experiencing this and that also includes me. Realizing that you don’t like your course is scary because you don’t know if you should transfer or not when you’re already halfway there. But I still decided to stay because to be honest not all people are brave and have the finances to do so.
At first, it was really hard not to lose motivation. However, I realized that we should do our best in everything and trust the road that is leading us to something awesome. My advice is if you have an opportunity to leave an unfulfilling job or course. The best thing to do is to leave because when you stick to things that sucks the soul from you. It is not healthy in the long term and will make you unhappy.
Instead, find things that you love because they will make you feel inspired, motivated, or passionate. The road to finding the things that make you happy is a matter of trial and error but in the end, it will lead you to something that lights you up.
9. You Have an Unhealthy Lifestyle
“Start with changing unhealthy habits to healthy ones and make them your favorites.”
– sahara sanders
A poor diet, lack of sleep, and not exercising will eventually, lead to a lot of health problems and a loss of motivation as you don’t have the energy to do anything productive. This is why you should always remember to take care of your health because you only have one life and one body.
10. You Compare Yourself With Other People
“ A flower does not think of competing to the flower next to it, it just blooms.”
– zen shin
Comparing yourself with other people can only steal joy from your life and it can also be unmotivating. It can make you lose focus, and sometimes you’ll tend to give up because it makes you feel like you’re not good enough.
However, comparing yourself to other people is truly unfair because each of us has different journeys. For example, we are like flowers some are early bloomers and some are late bloomers. Which why you have to be patient and someday you’ll bloom beautifully. Most importantly, focus on yourself and do what makes you feel inspired and fulfilled.
