Hi! It’s been such a long time since I’ve written a post for this blog. Life has just been too busy lately.
Sooner or later I’ll be graduating, and I’m always left wondering, “What will my future be?” as the future is so scary and exciting at the same time.
The time has just been too fast for me; it feels like it’s going by in a blur. That it’s so hard to reflect and catch up on the things I have to do.
Some days will leave me so tired and empty, that I just don’t have the energy to look back and reflect, yet here I am now reflecting and creating this post.
This post is like a letter to my younger self. It is about what I wish I could say to my younger self and the pieces of advice I could have given.
Years went by so fast that it’s important to look back from time to time because life has such a rich history.
The past may have been happy or sad, but every second of it contributed to the life we lead now, and looking back enables us to understand why we act the way we do.
1. Don’t be such a people pleaser.
You can be liked just by being “you”. You don’t have to always say “yes” just to be accepted by others.
2. Take every opportunity.
I still have doubts about myself, but those doubts were much bigger back when I was in high school. That I would not take every opportunity that I saw, just because I felt like it was too much for me and that I can’t do it.
3. Be confident!
Did you know that I have scoliosis? Back in high school, I had to wear a back brace, and because of it, my self-confidence was greatly affected.
I was afraid that people would know about it and make fun of it. Which did happen btw, but I’ve moved on now!
4. Take a chance on people.
Just because you had a bad experience with certain people, it does not mean that all of them are bad.
5. Let go of toxic relationships.
It’s important to let go when the relationship that you have is already toxic.
It is not healthy to keep holding on just because you’re afraid of losing them, but by letting go, you are making room for more meaningful relationships.
6. It’s ok to not be ok.
It’s ok to be sad, and it’s ok to cry. This is not a sign of weakness but of strength.
7. Don’t be afraid to fail.
Failure is part of the learning process.
8. Be kind to yourself.
No one is perfect, and neither are you. Be kind to yourself when you feel insecure about other people’s lives.
9. Self-care is important.
Some people might associate self-care with being selfish, but that’s not true. Self-care is about taking care of yourself and prioritizing your mental health.
10. Learn to forgive.
Forgiving someone is not easy, but letting go of any hatred can seriously set you free and allow you to live a life without negativity.
11. Let go of that pride.
Because of my pride. I used to find it difficult to apologize, but by doing so, I was only making an argument worse by not accepting my faults.
12. Confess your feelings!
Seriously, I’m a super shy person, and when I see my crush just around the hallway, I would run away blushing!
However, when you feel like this relationship is worth a shot, you should go ahead and confess. There’s nothing wrong with it, and it’s okay to try.
13. Believe in yourself.
Believe that you can do so many things. After all, limitations are what you have set for yourself.
14. Fight back!
There’s nothing wrong with fighting back. Especially if what other people are doing to you is wrong.
Looking back, I am very soft-hearted, and when someone said something that offended me, I would just laugh it out, pretending like it was ok.
Which is most likely the reason why they kept repeating it. I just wished I could have said something back.
15. Tell people you love them.
Growing up, I was shy about saying “I love you” to my parents, but the thing is, you have to tell your parents that you love them as much as possible while they are still with you.
Sometimes, looking at how my parents are now old makes me sad; it just makes me realize that time with them is limited and that I have to cherish every moment.
So, to my Mama and Papa, if you’re reading this I would just like to say that I love you so much! And thank you for everything.
16. Every experience will shape you into who you are.
Happy moments will make you smile and laugh once you remember them, but sad moments will teach you how to become strong for yourself.
17. Wear sunscreen.
As much as possible, start early and apply sunscreen to your face that is SPF 30 or higher. To prevent early signs of aging and, of course, to look young when you’re already old.
18. Popularity is not everything.
Back in high school, popularity mattered a lot, and how people perceived me was what mattered the most.
But I realized that in the real world, no one cares if you’re popular in high school, so don’t waste your time hanging out with people you don’t like.
19. Always see the bigger picture.
Practicing seeing the bigger picture will give you a new perspective and help you figure out what you can do to improve.
20. Don’t rush into a relationship.
You don’t need a relationship to feel complete or fit in, okay?
At my age, a lot of people around me have relationships, and seeing their Instagram stories with their BF/GF makes me admit that I want a special relationship too.
Even so, I don’t want to settle for something less because I know for myself that I deserve a good guy.
21. Be nice to people.
A simple smile can brighten someone’s day, and if you see someone who needs help, don’t hesitate to help them.
22. Ask for help.
When you know that you can’t figure it all out on your own, don’t hesitate to ask for help. There are so many things that you can learn from other people.
23. You can’t change anyone.
You can only change yourself and inspire other people to change.
24. Never stop learning.
There is so much in life that you can learn. Attend seminars and learn a new hobby to improve your knowledge and meet new people.
25. Never forget where you came from.
Always be humble, and never forget the people who have helped you, because being humble will get you far.
